Please Do Something is a community-based organization that provides free music lessons and mentoring to promising youth in DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia; that is, low-income and at-risk youth without the necessary resources and support to reach their full potential. We also provide musical equipment to partner organizations serving underserved adults who have quality music programs but are short on equipment as well as for music teachers in Title I primary schools. The three music education programs we offer are listed below.
Please Do Something has never received public funding, and was created to meet the needs of schools at a time when the Cheshire County Council was unable.
Starting with anything other than an idea and lots of energy and commitment (our first office was a converted pig-stye !!) we developed a truly unique and non-profit business model to provide the services we feel best fit the needs of schools, parents, instrumental teachers and youth in the area. It’s a real work of love, and what we offer is sure to work because, without the ads, Please Do Something’s reputation spreads from school to school purely by word of mouth. From teaching about 200 students a week in 6 schools in 1995, Please Do Something now works with more than 4,000 students a week now in more than 100 schools and has an enviable reputation for quality and integrity.
